Greeting from the Mayor
To the citizens and visitors of Augsburg,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to visit the “Christkindlesmarkt,” our Christmas market at City Hall Square in Augsburg.
Our Christmas market is one of Germany’s oldest. The Christmas ambience in front of City Hall and in the surrounding streets, an Advent pyramid, the Swabian nativity scene placed underneath the Christmas tree, colorful booths festively decorated, traditional specialties and treats and most of all the delightful performance of angels which we call the “Engelesspiel,“– these all belong together and shape the season of Advent in Augsburg.
I am especially excited that year for year we receive an ever-increasing number of guests from beyond our city. The Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt, steeped in tradition, has become a friendly meeting place full of character and atmosphere, not only for the citizens of Augsburg, but also for regional guests, visitors from all over Germany and tourists from our neighboring countries.
Many thanks to all the operators of stands and the organizers whose services maintain our long-established Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt, still cherished and well-visited.
I wish you a cheerful and meaningful Advent season and much enjoyment while strolling through the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt.
We look forward to seeing you!
Dr. Kurt Gribl
Mayor of the city of Augsburg
